Indonesi\u00eb is een aantrekkelijke bestemming voor buitenlandse investeerders, maar strenge regels bepalen hoe ze kunnen werken. Volgens wet nr. 25 van 2007 over investeringen, moeten buitenlandse investeerders een PMA (Penanaman Modal Asing), of Foreign-Owned Company, oprichten om legaal zaken te doen in Indonesi\u00eb. Bovendien specificeert de Negatieve Investeringslijst (DNI), die nu is ge\u00efntegreerd in de Positieve Investeringslijst (PIL) onder presidenti\u00eble verordening nr. 10 van 2021, welke sectoren open, beperkt of gesloten zijn voor buitenlandse investeringen. Ten eerste kan het opereren zonder de juiste registratie resulteren in wettelijke straffen, waaronder boetes, sluiting van het bedrijf en zelfs deportatie. Ten tweede hebben investeerders zonder PMA geen wettelijke bescherming, waardoor het moeilijk wordt om contracten af te dwingen of geschillen op te lossen in Indonesische rechtbanken. Ten derde kunnen bedrijven zonder de juiste vergunning moeite hebben om bankrekeningen te openen, werknemers in dienst te nemen of overeenkomsten te sluiten met lokale partners. Ten slotte controleert en handhaaft de Indonesische overheid actief de investeringsregels, wat betekent dat niet-geregistreerde bedrijven het risico lopen om plotseling te worden gesloten als ze zich
