President Jokowi Invites PGII to Support Indonesia’s Infrastructure Development

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) invited the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGII) to collaborate and support infrastructure development in Indonesia through substantial investment to achieve equity and prosperity. This was stated in his remarks at the side event of the PGII G7 and Partner Countries held at the Grand Prince Hotel, Hiroshima, Japan, on Saturday, May 20, 2023.

President Jokowi explained that previous infrastructure development in Indonesia was mainly focused on Java Island. This resulted in an uneven distribution of population and economic activities throughout the country.

Therefore, President Jokowi emphasized that Indonesia is currently performing infrastructure development outside Java, such as airports or seaports to toll roads to reduce the existing disparities.

Furthermore, President Jokowi mentioned that the funding for primary infrastructure development in IKN comes from the State Budget (APBN). He also stated that opportunities for funding from private sectors or investors will be explored if the internal rate of return (IRR) of the development is considered favorable.

Moreover, the Head of State believes that IKN can be a manifestation of Indonesia’s transformation which is highly open to investment and cooperation in various fields.
